The Zimbabwe Youth Innovation HackLab 2026 has been officially launched, inviting young innovators aged 18 to 35 to submit their ideas aimed at addressing critical challenges in health, economic empowerment, and climate resilience. This initiative is led by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training in collaboration with the UN Youth Group, chaired by UNFPA.

The HackLab seeks youth-led innovations that can effectively tackle pressing issues within three categories:

  1. Holistic Youth Health & Well-being
  2. Youth Economic Empowerment
  3. Scaling Green Jobs & Climate Resilience

Each category winner will receive a US$5,000 seed capital grant along with business development support, pitch coaching, and opportunities for visibility at both national and regional levels.

The HackLab is designed as a structured pathway rather than a traditional competition. It aims to help young innovators co-design, build, and own real solutions with substantial support behind them. The initiative aligns with the Zimbabwe National Youth Empowerment Strategy (NYES 2026-2030) and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Application Process and Timeline

Applications for the HackLab opened on September 25, 2026, and will close on October 20, 2026, at 23:59 CAT. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their ideas through the online application form. The selection process includes a technical review, notification of finalists, and a pitch event at the National Youth Symposium, where winners will be announced.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must be registered in Zimbabwe and fall within the age range of 18 to 35. The HackLab encourages team applications, with a preference for teams that include at least 40% female members. Each application must focus on one of the three categories and address a specific root cause identified during the HackLab Problem Definition Workshop held in July 2026.

The Zimbabwe Youth Innovation HackLab 2026 represents a significant opportunity for young innovators to contribute to solving some of the most pressing challenges facing their communities. With substantial support and funding available, the initiative aims to empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers in Zimbabwe.
